NATE’S CAPTAINS - Round 1
We are going to look at some of the best captain options for round 1. Exploring some of the different strategies you can use during the season depending if you are chasing league or overall glory.
Ninja VC - First game of the week. In league your opponent cannot see any changes you have made before the first game. A chance to catch them by surprise:
Sam Walsh: Finished 2025 with 3 game avg of 109. He’s had a full pre season and scored 114 in round 0 vs Geelong. Now has Richmond to feast on. Is this the return to ‘21/’22 when he averaged 117 & 111
Boom or bust VC - This will be a high variance VC option. Hoping to hit it out of the park and make it an easy decision for you. Either hell yeah or hell no:
Darcy Parish: What better way to see if our investment was worth it then putting the VC on him. If he is back could go 120 but could blow up in first qtr. How fun?
Early VC - Friday/early Saturday VC/C option a lot of people will likely lock in:
Marcus Bontempelli: This is why you paid $706.8K for the man. Lock him in and watch him roll. Solid 113 vs lions. Back to Marvel where 113 is his average across 134 games.
Captain Obvious - Let’s make it an easy decision. Should hit 110 on a bad day but hopefully we get that 130 we are chasing:
Tristian Xerri: Looks like Dante Visentini will be Port’s #1 ruck. Total mismatch and Xerri should feast. Scored 158 vs Port last year
Zak Butters: Looked electric in his pre season game and he is at marvel vs Roos. Contract year so lets expect some big scores here. Recent history 162, 113, 139 vs Roos
Nick Daicos: What more can be said about this guy? Starts the season with 41 touches for 117 points. If he doesn’t get tagged he will rip teams apart and score big.
Hail Mary - It’s the last game as you are chasing the win in league. Lets throw the captains armband on someone in the last game to get us out of a jam:
Christian Petracca: Clearly loving the sunshine state. Geelong had no answers as he scored his highest rated game of is career (170). Next up is West Coast and surely another monster score.
